How It Works

Do I need to take my car to a garage?+

No. JMA comes directly to your home or workplace anywhere within our 20-mile service area. You do not need to arrange alternative transport or take time off work.

What areas do you cover?+

We cover Gloucester and the surrounding area within approximately 20 miles, including Stroud, Cheltenham and Tewkesbury. Call 01452 447220 to confirm your postcode.

Are you qualified and insured?+

Yes. John McKenzie holds an IMI Level 3 qualification in Light Vehicle Repair, is MOT-tester qualified, and carries full public liability insurance. All work is backed by a 12-month warranty on parts and labour.

How do I get a quote?+

Call 01452 447220 or use the online enquiry form. We will ask for your vehicle registration and a brief description of the work required, and provide a clear price before any work begins.

How long will the work take?+

It depends on the job. An oil and filter change typically takes under an hour. A full service is usually one to two hours. More complex work such as a timing belt replacement will take longer. We will give you an estimated time when you book.

What payment methods do you accept?+

We accept card, cash and bank transfer. Payment is due on completion of the work. No deposit is required for standard bookings.

Do you work on all makes and models?+

Yes. JMA works on all makes and models of cars and light commercial vehicles. If you have a specific question about your vehicle, call 01452 447220 and we will confirm before you book.

Is there a warranty on the work?+

Yes. All parts and labour are covered by a 12-month warranty. If an issue arises with any work carried out by JMA within 12 months of the service date, contact us and we will resolve it.

Can I see evidence of any work recommended?+

Yes. This is standard practice at JMA. Before any additional work is recommended, you have the option to see photos or videos of the components in question. You will never be asked to approve work without seeing the evidence first.

How do I book a same-day breakdown callout?+

Call 01452 447220 as soon as possible. We operate on a same-day basis where availability allows. The call-out charge is £50, and further labour and parts costs are quoted on-site before any work proceeds.

Services & Pricing

Do you stamp service books?+

Yes. Your service book is stamped on completion of any interim or full service. Maintaining a stamped service history is important for resale value and for some warranty conditions.

What is included in a full service?+

A full service covers engine oil and oil filter, air filter, fuel filter (diesel), spark plugs (petrol), and cabin filter. It also includes a full vehicle inspection, fluid top-ups, tyre pressure check, service indicator reset, and service book stamp.

What is the difference between a full service and an interim service?+

A full service replaces all major service items including all filters and spark plugs. An interim service is a mid-year health check covering oil, oil filter, a full inspection, and fluid top-ups. Most manufacturers recommend an interim every 6,000 miles or six months.

Can you help if my engine warning light is on?+

Yes. JMA provides OBD diagnostic checks from £50 using a professional Launch scanner. We will read and interpret the fault codes, explain the findings in plain language, and advise on the most appropriate next steps.

Do you carry out fleet servicing?+

Yes. JMA offers discounted rates for businesses with multiple vehicles. We work at your premises to minimise vehicle downtime. Call 01452 447220 or email mckenzie663@hotmail.com for a fleet quote.

Booking & Areas

What are your opening hours?+

Monday to Friday 08:00–18:00, Saturday 08:00–14:00, Sunday closed. For breakdown assistance outside these hours, call 01452 447220 and we will do our best to assist.

Do you carry out timing belt replacements?+

Yes. JMA carries out timing belt and timing chain checks and replacements. This is safety-critical work and John McKenzie is an IMI Level 3 qualified mechanic with the experience to carry it out correctly.

Are there any services you do not offer?+

JMA does not currently carry out tyre fitting, tyre balancing, wheel alignment, or air conditioning regas. For all other common vehicle servicing and repair requirements, please call 01452 447220 to discuss.

How does mobile servicing save me money?+

Mobile servicing removes the cost and inconvenience of travelling to a garage and arranging alternative transport. JMA also operates with lower overheads than a traditional garage, which helps keep prices competitive. You also avoid unnecessary upsell work — JMA only recommends what is genuinely required.
